Sage Engineering provided HVAC and electrical design services for the construction of diagnostic and treatment spaces, including two operating rooms, in an existing medical exam office building.

The existing building was constructed as a typical medical office fitup space with overhead clearance limited to 9’-8” from floor to underside of structure. Sage Engineering provided detailed project design so that all of the HVAC and electrical system required in a modern operating suite could be fitting within the available space.

Mechanical systems included new air handling equipment dedicated to the procedures suite, as well as expansion of existing HVAC systems serving the diagnostic center.

Electrical design included upgrades and additions to fire alarm, lighting, power and nurse call systems was also accomplished.

Addition of Operating Rooms to Existing Surgery Center

Bone and Joint Center, 1367 Washington Avenue

Albany, New York

Sage Engineering provided HVAC, electrical, plumbing and fire protection design services for the construction of two new operating rooms to an existing facility equipped with four operating rooms. The project also included the expansion of the primary and secondary recovery spaces and renovation to all support spaces associated with the operating suites.

This facility required that construction be accomplished with the existing four operating suites remaining in operation, so detailed phasing and coordination was required.

Mechanical tasks included installation of new mechanical equipment in such way that existing spaces were included in new system zones so that existing over-taxed systems could be improved for overall operation.

A complete new building-wide DDC system was added for computer-based controls of all HVAC equipment.

Electrical design included a new generator dedicated to the entire operating room floor and removal of the existing generator service so that the existing generator size was sufficient for the balance of the building with the new generator providing total backup capacity for the operating room floor. Upgrades and additions to fire alarm, lighting, power and nurse call systems was also accomplished.
