Design of New 760 Bed Residence Hall

Sage Engineering Associates, LLP is in the process of designing a new 760 bed residence hall, providing mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and plumbing design services for the project. The project also includes a dining hall and kitchen.
The project mechanical systems include valance heating/cooling units in the residence hall rooms, a 1000 ton chiller plant, and a heating plant fed from campus high temperature hot water. Electrical systems include two electrical services (one 3000 amp 208/120 service and one 2000 amp 480/277 service), fire alarm, data, telecommunications and a 1250 kW emergency generator.

Oneida Dormitory - Uptown Campus

Sage Engineering Associates, LLP provided mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and plumbing design services for the gut renovation of existing 3-story plus basement dormitory buildings at the uptown campus. The existing building layout was modified to provide private toilet facilities in new occupant suites to replace the original ganged toilet facilities. The electrical systems were rehabilitated to provide new Category 6 network cabling, telephone wiring, and CATV cable system to each sleeping unit from existing building distribution system; new interior lighting, new feeder and power distribution equipment with branch circuits to each room and the HVAC equipment as well as existing exterior lighting; and a new addressable fire alarm system with connection to the University’s monitoring system. A low temperature heating distribution system fed from a connection to the existing site high temperature hot water distribution system provided building heat. The building was provided with a complete NFPA sprinkler system.

Design of New Condominium Building
Windham, New York
Sage Engineering Associates, LLP provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering services for the design of a new 5-story condominium building consisting of 35 individual condominium residencies, underground parking facility, 4-season outdoor pool, fitness facility, common entertainment spaces, sales office, club space, and ski storage facility. The building was completely air conditioned and included central distribution of domestic hot water.
SUNY – University at Albany, Renovate Dining Halls
State and Indian Quads - Uptown Campus

Sage Engineering Associates, LLP provided mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and plumbing design services for the gut renovation of two existing dining halls at the uptown campus.
New cooking facilities were designed for the dining halls, including exhaust hoods in the kitchen as well as a hood over a new Mongolian Grille located as a demonstration cooking facility in the dining room proper. New VAV air distribution systems were designed for dining hall and lounge ventilation and comfort.
Kitchen hood ventilation featured variable flow exhaust hoods to minimize energy consumption.
The building was provided with a complete NFPA sprinkler system.
SUNY – University at Albany Replace Fire Alarm Systems
Mohawk and Livingston Dormitory Towers

Sage Engineering Associates, LLP designed the replacement fire alarm systems for one 24-story (Mohawk Tower) and one 23-story (Livingston Tower) high-rise dormitories. The existing fire alarm systems were surveyed and “As-Is” drawings were developed. Demolition and replacement fire alarm system design plans were developed in conjunction such that demolition and installation can be phased to limit interruptions to fire alarm system coverage. Temporary fire detection and alarm system connections were specified for personnel safety and property protection. Asbestos abatement plans were developed to correspond with the areas requiring demolition and installation work.

Multi-Phase Campus Renovations

Sage Engineering provided HVAC, electrical, lighting, plumbing and fire protection design services for the construction of three new dormitories, a new gymnasium, a new dining hall, a new maintenance facility and renovations to an existing classroom/office building. This project featured phased construction to permit continued occupancy of buildings slated for demolition as new construction proceeds.
Square footage of buildings under renovation and new construction totaled 96,000 square feet.
